4,000+ volunteers to wear striking new uniforms from major partner Arco

Local company Arco has been announced as a major partner of Hull UK City of Culture 2017. As part of its commitment to the initiative, the corporate and safety garment specialist has designed and sourced the official uniform to be worn by over 4,000 volunteers.

With a portfolio of uniform designs for projects like The London 2012 Olympics, the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, the BLOODHOUND supersonic car team, Her Majesty’s Passport Office, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and for companies such as the London Taxi Company and Card Factory, Arco has applied its expertise to create a range of garments that are visible, distinctive and unifying for the team.

Neil Jowsey, Joint MD of Arco said: “As a Hull born and bred company with a wealth of experience in the corporate and safety garment industry, Arco is extremely honoured to share its expertise in support of Hull City of Culture 2017. Transformation of our city marks an exciting opportunity for business and tourism and an initiative we are proud to be a part of.”

The bespoke designs have been created by Arco’s own Clothing Technologist and Designers Kirby Griffiths and Tertia Beaney. Both are experienced in supplying volunteer garments having worked on the London 2012 Olympic and 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow uniforms.

The uniforms will include polo shirts, a 3 in 1 soft shell and waterproof jacket combination, and a baseball cap. Volunteers will also be issued with cargo pants and shorts.

Rosie Millard, Chair of Hull UK City of Culture 2017, said: “We have had phenomenal support from the business community so far and we are delighted to welcome another major Hull business on board today. As the UK’s leading provider of workwear Arco is a most fitting company to partner with us and create a specially designed uniform, for the 4,000-strong army of volunteers that will support 2017’s transformational year of cultural celebrations.”

Fabrics have been chosen to enable wearers to layer them up dependent on the weather. In the summer, volunteers can wear a short sleeved polo, and when cooler add a water repellent soft shell jacket. For cold and rainy days, Arco has produced a fully water resistant hooded jacket.
