Challenge Hull Week #18 – ‘Short Sharp Poem’

Have you ever written a poem? If so, when was the last time? This week the staff at HM Prison, Hull, have a challenge to get your creative juices flowing…

‘Short Sharp Poem’

DO:

Write a five-line poem in 15 minutes. That’s it. There are no rules, no expectations and no set topic. This is simply your chance to write about anything that comes to mind, or anything that is on your mind.

The inmates at HM Prison, Hull, have written their own poems to inspire you Challenge Hull-ers to put pen to paper…

IF YOU HAVE A LITTLE MORE TIME:

Grab a friend and ask them to also write a poem and swap, perhaps give each other topics to write about, or words that must be used. Read them to each other and see how they compare.

THINK:

What did you write about? Were you surprised what came to mind? Did your perception of poetry change from doing this task?

SHARE:

We would love to read your poems, display them any way you wish, for example if you live by the sea, could you write your poem in the sand? Share your poems on social media using #ChallengeHull and tag Hull 2017 (on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).

Check our social media channels or our website next Monday for your next challenge. And don’t forget to share all the challenges (including your own) with others to encourage them to get stuck in, too.

Good luck!
