Drag royalty Alaska 5000 to headline Pride in Hull

Famed drag act Alaska 5000 will wow crowds with a performance in Queens Gardens for this year’s Pride in Hull.

The act, runner-up in season five of the global TV hit RuPaul’s Drag Race, will appear in the city on Saturday 20 July.

Alaska 5000 is the first performer to be announced for this year’s Pride in Hull – and organisers are already promising this year’s event will be bigger, bolder, and prouder than ever.

Pride in Hull trustee Andy Hastings said: “RuPaul’s Drag race is one of the biggest shows on the planet and a huge cultural phenomenon. The audience response to Courtney Act and Adore Delano playing Pride in Hull in 2017 and 2018 was incredible, so we knew we had to step our game up and bring a winner to Hull.”

Alaska was invited to return for the second season of RuPaul’s Drag Race Allstars, in which she went on to steal the crown and secure her place in the Drag Race hall of fame.

She has also toured the globe and scored two top-five albums on the US Dance Chart.

Creative director Andy Train said: “The queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race are so incredibly popular with our audience and they have made drag such a huge part of mainstream culture”.

Pride in Hull attracted 50,000 people in 2018, cementing its status as one of Hull’s biggest events – and the biggest free Pride in the country.
