We’re hitting the road. Join us at one of our 22 roadshows in April and May 2016.
Websites are great, and Twitter is lovely – but how about a proper catch up, face to face? We want to speak to as many people as possible across Hull to talk about our year as UK City of Culture, so in April and May we’re hitting to road to spread the word about 2017.
We’ve published a full list of the roadshows and will be pulling out all the stops for our first event at The Freedom Centre on 4 and 5 April. We’ll be out on the road for two months (all over Hull and Beverley) before our final roadshow at Pearson Park on the 21 and 22 May.
We’ve created some handy maps too, to help you find us when we’re out on the road:
During the roadshows we’ll be explaining what Hull UK City of Culture 2017 is all about, giving a few hints about the kinds of events we’re planning for next year, and letting you know all of the ways you can get involved. It’s not just about us talking though – we want to know what you think too. At every roadshow we’ll be bringing along our 2017 Aspiration Tree (yes, a real tree) and asking you to share your aspirations for 2017. What do you hope to achieve in 2017? What do you plan to do in 2017? What will you feel in 2017? Add your contributions to the tree when the roadshow appears near you soon.
If you’re looking for ways to get involved with 2017, we’ll have loads of information for you at the roadshows. Thinking about volunteering? Come along and chat to our team about the opportunities we have throughout 2016 and ‘17, giving you the chance to grab a front row seat – play your part in the next major national event and get the chance to say “I was there!”.
The range of volunteering roles up for grabs is wide-ranging, including everything from stage management to visitor welcome and social media. If you’re interested and are over the age of 16, apply for our volunteer programme now or come along to a roadshow and find out more. Anyone from across the UK can become a volunteer, and if you don’t have access to a computer, we can help you apply at one of our roadshows.
Not sure about volunteering, but got a great idea in mind for 2017? Our Creative Communities Programme should be right up your street. This programme will fund creative projects that go above and beyond the every-day, unleashing the spirit of creativity in Hull and bringing communities together. Our 22 roadshows will offer a fantastic opportunity to ask any burning questions you might have about the programme, including how to apply and why it’s definitely worth your while. Applications open 4 April until 16 May 2016.
If you’re an individual or organisation from Hull, there’s something extra we can offer you too. We want everyone from the city to share in the success of Hull’s year as City of Culture, so we’re offering residents the chance to use our Community Brand. Hull 2017 belongs to the entire city, so we want organisations and individuals who make a positive impact on their community to get the chance to use Hull 2017 logos, posters and other graphics and publicly show their support. Schools, community groups, voluntary and non-profit groups or individuals who make a real impact to the city can get involved and wear the official Hull 2017 brand with pride. Our marketing team will be on hand at the roadshows to explain lots more about what the Community Brand is and how you can get access to it.
Our roadshows will be stopping off at East Park, The Orchard Centre, Costello Playing Fields, Beverley Market Place, Kingswood Health Centre, Victoria Dock Village Hall, North Hull Community Centre and just about everywhere in between – we hope you can come along and say hi.
