Magic and mystery were unleashed in Hull last weekend as the live finale of Land of Green Ginger stomped and romped its way through the city centre.
Land of Green Ginger Unleashed, from master storytellers Macnas, saw giant kinetic puppets and hundreds of performers parade through Hull in a final Act of Wanton Wonder. Thousands of people lined the streets to see giant Crom, a snarling troupe of wolf ballerinas, and creatures from all corners of the imagination led from the Land of Green Ginger by the enigmatic Mystic in his boat. Interspersed with some truly awe-inspiring pyrotechnics from And Now:, it was an evening of magic, mayhem and madness.
The procession featured participation from around 250 local volunteers, who pushed, animated and lit the giant images through the streets. In addition to Macnas’ professional performers and musicians, around 70 volunteer performers made up the five performance troupes who had been in rehearsals with Macnas’ artistic director, Noeline Kavanagh, since September.
With thanks to Culture Ireland, Northern Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA), Skelton Hooper’s, Solo, Hull College, Backstage Academy, Hull Carnival Arts and all the participants and volunteers.
