Gallery: Micropolis

Derringham residents have been beguiled by a thriving city built within Springhead Pumping Station – but where has it come from?

The Grade II listed Pumping Station was opened to the public in October and over 13,000 people visited to explore Micropolis and perhaps even catch a glimpse of its elusive inhabitants.

Created by artists Davy and Kristin McGuire, their impressive world comprises every conceivable amenity, from gyms to schools, hotels to streetlamps and skyscrapers to kebab shops. Painstakingly created out of the rubbish we discard, it replicates everything you’d find in cities all over the world – just in glorious and detailed miniature.

Micropolis closed its doors on Sunday 5 November, but visit our photo gallery to revisit the tiny world and its inhabitants.
