Gallery: Substance Live: The Future Of The North

Substance Live: The Future Of The North celebrated some of the UK’s most exciting and innovative musicians, in an all-female line-up at Hull City Hall.

The show saw audiences embrace everything from the homegrown freak folk of The Dyr Sister, Manchester’s finest PINS, the heavy sounds of sister-doom duo CHAMBERS, to literally being covered in shaving foam by Lone Taxidermist’s ‘Areseonists’.

Hannah Peel’s alter ego Mary Casio took us on an incredible Journey to Cassiopeia with her electronic/brass band, whilst Nadine Shah delivered an incredible, politically charged post-punk performance.

Topping off the night was the psychedelic dream pop of Jane Weaver, all hosted by BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio 3’s Elizabeth Alker.

Here’s just some of our favourite snaps from the evening.
