Humber Mouth in its 26th Year

Lily Cole, Helen Mort, Bonnie Greer, Zoë Howe and Toria Garbutt coming to Hull for the 2018 Humber Mouth Literature Festival.

Humber Mouth is here again, celebrating its 26th year by offering another eclectic range of literature events.

Exploring themes of pioneering women, this year’s festival commemorates 200 years since the birth of Emily Brontë, and the publication of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Co-curated by Bonnie Greer, playwright, novelist, critic and broadcaster, and Shane Rhodes, poet, artistic director of Humber Mouth, co-director BBC Contains Strong Language, and editor of Wrecking Ball Press, it showcases female authors, poets and artists across a wide range of genres.

Bonnie will be in conversation with 2018 Brontë Society creative partner, entrepreneur, actor and model Lily Cole, at a screening and discussion of her short film Balls. Exploring connections between the Foundling Hospital story and Emily Brontë’s much-loved Wuthering Heights, Cole’s film reimagines Heathcliff’s early years in this exciting Hull première.

The festival also welcomes rock ‘n’ roll biographer Zoë Howe, an evening of acclaimed crime novelists hosted by Hull Noir, eminent poet Helen Mort, punk poet Toria Garbutt, and a celebration of legendary soul queen Aretha Franklin with Bonnie Greer and Gifty Burrows.

Humber Mouth runs from Monday October 1 to Sunday October 7. Tickets are available from humbermouth.com, and for all festival updates follow them on Facebook (humbermouthliteraturefestival) and Twitter (@humbermouth).
