The Kings Of Hull premieres at Hull New Theatre

John Godber’s new comedy tells the remarkable story of the King family across three generations.

A new comedy written and directed by John Godber will premiere tonight at the recently reopened Hull New Theatre. The Kings Of Hull tells the story of one family – the Kings – as they navigate life’s ups and downs.

From life on the docks, to Hull Prison, a lottery win and success in the coal trade, the Kings have been through a lot together, but they always come out fighting. Bonded by love but divided by rugby, a river and sibling rivalry, we join the Kings at a golden wedding celebration to journey through 50 years of the family, from 1960s through to Brexit and beyond.

Kings of Hull.

With a cast that includes former Emmerdale actor Martin Barrass, Hull-born Pippa Fulton and actor and playwright Jane Thornton, writer and director of the highly acclaimed Ocho, this hilariously irreverent production is not to be missed.

It follows a series of brilliant plays put on this year by The John Godber Company, including Shakers at East Riding Theatre and The Empty Nesters’ Club at Hull Truck Theatre. The company was established in 2011 by John Godber, the award-winning director and playwright behind shows such as Bouncers and Up ‘n’ Under. As former artistic director of Hull Truck Theatre, John also played a huge role in the theatre’s development. His plays continue to tour across the UK and have been seen by over 100,000 people.

The Kings Of Hull runs from Wed 27 Sep to Sat 7 Oct at Hull New Theatre, with a signed performance taking place on Wed 4 Oct at 7.30pm. Tickets are available now from £13.50.
