Leading law firm finds new ways to support City of Culture

Discover why Hull law firm Rollits are so excited about Hull 2017 – and how they’re supporting our year in the spotlight.

I have never been more proud of Hull – and that’s saying something. Ever since I moved to the region in 1987 I’ve been a proud supporter of this city and its ambitions.

I love the energy of this place. Its unpretentiousness. It’s a city like no other, where everyone works together with a shared ambition; to make Hull a success.

But I think my pride is also due to where I work.

Rollits is a company firmly rooted in this city. The Old Town is where the law firm began and where it has stayed, with Hull’s businesses and people providing a strong foundation for the firm to grow over the last 175 years.

When Hull was announced as the UK City of Culture 2017, we did not hesitate in offering our support. We saw what a fantastic opportunity Hull’s year in the spotlight would provide to show the world how great this place is.

I knew this year would be good, but I had no idea it would ever be this good.

But other than providing funding, many people might question what a law firm can do to support an artistic and cultural programme.

When we became a Hull 2017 City Partner, we decided to go the extra mile to make 2017 a success. We agreed to second one of our trainee solicitors to the Hull 2017 team for 18 months, as well as provide a legal helpline service for the company. Whilst supporting Hull 2017, this has proved to be a fantastic opportunity for our young trainees to work as part of the Culture Company, and it has equipped them with skills and knowledge to take them forward in their careers as lawyers.

We’ve also opened our High Street doors, playing host to creative workshops as well as Culture Company and Hull 2017 partnership meetings. Welcoming these new guests, visiting our building alongside clients and visitors seeking legal advice, has brought a different kind of energy to the place.

I knew this year would be good, but I had no idea it would ever be this good. To see so many people of all ages and all walks of life enjoying the city, is truly superb. Long may the spirit of Hull 2017 live on.
