LGBT 50: 50 Queers for 50 Years

We chat to the artists behind this poignant project for LGBT 50.

In an empty café on Jameson Street, three artists and hundreds of Hull people have been hard at work, creating a sea of glitter, flowers and, most importantly, LGBT+ icons.

It’s all part of 50 Queers for 50 Years, a Duckie project taking place for LGBT 50. It celebrates iconic people, places and events from the 50 years since the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK began. From the profound to the unknown, these icons have played their part in fighting for freedom and equality for the LGBT+ community, and now they are being handmade into figures that will join the Pride in Hull parade on Saturday 22 July.

There’s still plenty to be getting on with, so if you’d like to contribute to this special project, drop in to a free craft session at 95 Jameson Street on Thursdays and Fridays from 4pm to 7pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm to 5pm, from now until the Pride in Hull parade on 22 July.

50 Queers for 50 Years is part of LGBT 50. Discover the full line-up and plan your week of celebration.
