Middle Child Returns with new show – One Life Stand

Catch this latest show before it heads to Latitude and Edinburgh in August.

Award-winning local theatre company Middle Child bring their latest show to pubs and clubs across Hull this week and audiences are in for yet another gig theatre treat from the team behind last year’s All We Ever Wanted Was Everything.

One Life Stand, written by Eve Nicol with music by James Frewer and Honeyblood, follows three young people over one night in Hull as they each search for some kind of real life intimacy in a city obsessed with sex and screens.

In a world where fresh excitement is just a swipe away, are our long-term lovers really our lifelong dreams? It’s a show that gets to the heart of sex and relationships in the age of mobile phones, when the world is our oyster and we face more distractions than ever before.

Live music features throughout, performed by the cast of actor-musicians, and the performance feels like a gig as much as a play, with the audience free to go to the bar, dance and singalong throughout.

The music, a mix of electronica and indie rock, is co-written by Middle Child associate artist James Frewer and Glaswegian band Honeyblood, who have supported the likes of Courtney Barnett and Foo Fighters.

Middle Child blew audiences away in 2017 with their epic gig theatre show about the end of the world, All We Ever Wanted Was Everything, which premiered at the Welly Club before selling out and winning awards at Edinburgh Fringe.

They’ll be hoping for more of the same when One Life Stand heads to Latitude Festival and then Edinburgh Fringe in August.

You can see it at the William Gemmell Club, Kardomah 94, Polar Bear, Adelphi Club, New Trinity Club and Thieving Harry’s.
