Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott set to return to Hull in 2017

Former Housemartins and Beautiful South stars to headline stadium gig alongside The Divine Comedy and Billy Bragg.

In a one-off show at the KC Lightstream Stadium, Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott will return to Hull on Saturday 3 June 2017 alongside some very special guests.

Paul and Jacqui will perform songs from their acclaimed albums as a duo, alongside classic tracks from The Beautiful South and The Housemartins.

Support will come from Neil Hannon’s The Divine Comedy and folk-punk legend Billy Bragg.

The show, titled Beauty in the East, is something of a homecoming for Paul, who formed The Housemartins in Hull during the 1980s. After a string of top 40 singles, including ‘Caravan of Love’ and ‘Happy Hour’, The Housemartins split in 1988, with Paul going on to form The Beautiful South. Jacqui joined The Beautiful South in the mid-90s, singing alongside Paul on some of the group’s biggest hits, including ‘Rotterdam’ and ‘Don’t Marry Her’. The Beautiful South called it a day in 2007, citing ‘musical similarities’.

Martin Green, CEO and Director of Hull UK City of Culture 2017, said: “We have a superb line-up of musical events taking place next year, but Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott’s return to Hull will inevitably be one of the highlights of the summer. Paul always receives a great reception when he comes home and, in a year that is about celebrating culture in the city, it is wonderful that he will be performing Housemartins songs, which are so strongly associated with Hull. The event’s location will resonate powerfully for everyone that lives here and we can expect the atmosphere to be electric.”

Tickets go on sale at 9.30am on Friday 25 November from www.gigsandtours.com and www.ticketmaster.co.uk.
