Spotlight On: Hull International Photography Festival

Learn tricks of the trade and encounter innovative, emerging photographers.

Hull International Photography Festival returns for its fourth year with an impressive line-up of exhibitions showcasing leading photographers from across the globe alongside the city’s own phenomenal, creative talent.  The annual event aims to celebrate photography as an art form and acknowledge its cultural importance.

Since its establishment in 2014 by BBC presenter and curator, Alan Raw, the festival has boomed in popularity and doubled in size year on year, receiving recognition on a national scale and providing a platform to Hull’s vibrant photography community.

This year, Hull International Photography Festival hosts an exceptional collection of work which explores various stylistic techniques, themes and narratives.

Work by the festival’s award-winning patrons Peter Dench, John Bulmer and Matthew Finn are on display, alongside exhibits marking the 25th anniversary of Lomography, the IN&AT 2017 group exhibition featuring artists from Hull, Aarhus, San Sebastian and Paphos, plus plenty more.

And that’s not all. The festival offers a broad mix of exhibitions, lectures, masterclasses, discussions and workshops, too, so whether you’re a professional photographer or an amateur looking to expand your skillset, there’s bound to be something for you.

Hull International Photography Festival is held in Princes Quay and until 30 Nov. A £10 advance wristband gives entry to all festival exhibitions, workshops and a prize draw. A small number of exhibitions are free and open to the public – please see the festival guide for full details.
