The Ferens Art Gallery is calling for submissions from professional and amateur artists for the 2020 Open Exhibition.
Whether you are a seasoned exhibitor or entering for the very first time, if you’d like your work to be seen by thousands of people, or to sell, then the Ferens Open is the platform for you.
All UK artists aged 16 or above can enter and are eligible to submit up to three pieces of work for consideration between Monday 16 September and Sunday 6 October 2019 using an online application form. Works will then be selected by a panel of specialist judges from the arts sector. This year the selectors will be Angela Kingston, Freelance Curator, Graham Dean, Visual Artist and Kenn Taylor, Creative Director, Artlink, Hull.
The chosen artworks will be on display from Saturday 15 February until Sunday 26 April 2020.
This is a unique opportunity for artists to show their work alongside internationally significant examples from the Ferens permanent collection, such as Pietro Lorenzetti’s panel painting of Christ between Saints Paul and Peter, c.1320.
Prizes are on offer for the chosen works, which have been kindly donated by Friends of the Ferens and BSB Architecture, they include:
- Friends of the Ferens Award: Awards of £250 (first prize), £150 (second prize) and £100 (third prize) go to winning entries selected by the Friends of the Ferens board.
- Future Ferens Young and Emerging Talent Award: Young artists age 16 to 25 are eligible for this prize. An award of £150 will go to an artist selected by BSB Architecture and the Future Ferens. Prize money has been kindly donated by BSB Architecture.
- Chair’s Award – Hull Culture & Leisure: An award of £100 goes to the winning entry selected by Hull Culture and Leisure Chair Marjorie Brabazon.
It costs £5 to submit each piece of artwork and the work must have been created within the last 12 months. All artists will be notified of the selector’s decision by email. Only successful artists will be required to deliver their artwork to the gallery from Saturday 18 – Sunday 26 January 2020.
