Film: Experience the Hull Indian Mela

Last Saturday, hundreds of people packed into Hull City Hall for the Hull Indian Mela, a stunning celebration of the tastes, sounds and colours of India organised by Hull and East Riding of Yorkshire Hindu Cultural Association.

From traditional Bollywood dancing to mouth-watering food, sari-tying and samosa-making workshops, along with group meditation and yoga sessions, there was plenty for visitors to experience and enjoy.

Although the Mela has been a highlight of Hull’s cultural programme for several years, this year was extra special with an even bigger programme and a live broadcast on to a huge screen in Queen Victoria Square, allowing everybody to get in on the action. And as the sun began to set, the finalé fireworks display was a fitting ending to a spectacular day.

Here are some of the highlights from this wonderfully vibrant event.

Hull Indian Mela was supported by the Hull 2017 Creative Communities Programme.
