Hull’s annual spectacular, Hull Fair, is one of the largest travelling fairs in Europe providing locals with both enjoyment and nourishment with its fairground favourites, mouth-watering food and flashing lights.

The fair is the most popular event in the city’s calendar attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each October, so you can imagine the people’s disappointment when it was announced that Hull Fair 2020 won’t take place due to coronavirus – the second time in its 742-year history!

But lovers of the fair don’t have to miss out, despite the fair not going ahead, food lovers can still get some of their Hull Fair foodie traditions. With Hull Fair food being almost as popular as the rides, this year some of the old favourites have rustled up something a bit different for the locals…

After the success of their Trinity Feast Boxes, Cocoa Chocolatiers have created a Feast Box with a Hull Fair twist! While they might not have been able to fit in a giant cuddly toy, they have managed to include plenty of other fairground favourites!

Priced at £12, each box is designed for one person and includes:

  • Two carvery sandwiches served in mini brioche buns (roast pork and stuffing and roast beef and caramelised onion)
  • Currywurst sausage roll with mustard and fried onions
  • Mini cheese and onion pie
  • Handmade chocolate covered cinder toffee
  • Chocolate dipped brandy snap (the proper stuff from Wright & Co)
  • Toffee apple brownie
  • A piece of handmade fudge

Sweet lovers will still be able to get a fix of their favourite Hull Fair sweet treats – thanks to a well-known and popular stallholder.

The Cole’s Family Funfair have pitched their stall in Walton Street for decades, but this October they will bring everything from brandy snap and nougat to fudge, candy floss and toffee apples direct to people’s doors.
