Kurt Weill: Suite for Wind Band, from The Threepenny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper) of 1928.

The opera is a version of The Beggar’s Opera, with libretto by Berthold Brecht. It was influenced by jazz and German dance-music of the time, and contains the famous “Mack the Knife”.

Maurice Duruflé: Requiem.

Commissioned in 1941 by the collaborationist Vichy regime, Duruflé completed it in 1947 and dedicated it to the memory of his father. The music incorporates numerous themes from the Gregorian mass for the dead.

Gustav Mahler: Rückert Lieder (selections)

Written in 1901 and 1902, Mahler’s settings of poems by Friedrich Rückert are some of his most beautiful songs. They were written as individual songs rather than to be performed as a song cycle, but are united in their introspection and their intimacy.

Claude Debussy: Trois Chansons de Charles d’Orléans

These rare choral works of Debussy are from a 1908 collection and use texts by Charles d’Orléans, prince and poet, who was imprisoned in England after the Battle of Agincourt in 1415.
