Summary

In celebration of Festival of Archaeology, Burton Constable will be offering guided tours of their historic grounds and parkland.

The historic parkland is one of the best documented examples of a landscape worked by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. Prior to the construction of the Hall and creation of surrounding deer park, the site was a medieval village consisting of 15 cottages, a windmill and dovecote. This area is now preserved as a Scheduled Ancient Monument in order to protect the surviving ridge and furrow.

In celebration of the Festival of Archaeology, Burton Constable has teamed up with East Riding Archaeological Society (ERAS) to offer visitors guided tours of the historic parkland, hands-on geophysical sessions and artefact displays from local excavations.

Parkland Tour

The parkland tour departs daily from entrance to the hall at 2pm (Saturday 15 July – Sunday 30 July). The tours will take approximately 45 mins/1 hour and will be led by an expert guide. Please note the route is along gravel paths that may be uneven in places and is weather dependant. It is free with normal admission charges.
