Heads Up Introducing: Lyn Acton

6 Mar 2018

Heads Up Festival’s Introducing series sees a leading cultural figure from the city talking about their life in the arts and the works of art that have influenced their creativity.

At the tenth Heads Up Festival Lyn Acton, singer with Pearls Cab Ride, joins us to talk about the songs that have had an impact on her life and career in music. We’ll listen to the tunes, take them in and enjoy a beautiful conversation. Think a soulful Desert Island Discs with a wonderful front woman in the hot seat.

Lyn Acton sings and writes songs with Pearls Cab Ride, a 10-piece funk outfit originally gigging around the UK acid jazz festivals in the 90s. But Lyn’s music career goes back further and deeper – with country, jazz and latin influences. From well-paid club circuit gigs to unpaid pet projects translating bossa nova classics, Lyn has been busy in music for 40 years.

She has also worked in primary schools as a teaching assistant and one-to-one carer for special needs. Lyn also knits – vibrant cardigans and cushion covers made to order for regular happy customers. And a mother – brought up two children and enjoys three grandkids now. Tragically her youngest, Jack, died suddenly six years ago from a brain aneurysm, aged 21. This is a life-changing devastation for anyone and Lyn lives with a new perspective.

Singing is a place where Lyn can thrive – totally engaged in making people dance and have fun. Or perhaps connect with the emotions only music can reach.
