Summary

Around 23 gardens in Hessle West are opening their gardens to welcome visitors to celebrate 25 years of annual opening.

The silver jubilee co-incides with Hull’s year as the UK City of Culture and aptly falls within Hull 2017’s Roots & Routes season. Many of the Open Gardens are celebrating the jubilee by each interpreting the number 25 within their gardens which will take individual forms, from planting a silver border, numerous horticultural displays and planting schemes to bespoke garden features including a sun dial, art displays by local artists, school displays and music recitals.

Hessle West Gardens open in Boothferry Road, Chestnut Avenue, Davenport Avenue, Elmswood, Ferriby Road, Livingstone Road, Southfield and South Lane Gardens open will have signs and balloons outside. Tickets to the Hessle West Open Gardens cost £3.50 for adults and are free for children. They can be purchased at any open garden.

Linking to the Roots & Routes theme organisers are extending an invitation to the citizens of Hull’s partner cities in Rotterdam, Aarhus and Reykjavik to visit the gardens for free. All they have to do is show proof of residence of one of the partner cities.
