The Hull Beermat Photography Festival with winners chosen by Martin Parr.

Hull turns traditional exhibition style on its head with a new photography festival curated specifically with social settings and social media in mind.

Forget white cubes, silent galleries and DO NOT TOUCH signs. Instead, picture images of Hull, submitted via Instagram with winners chosen by world-renowned photographer Martin Parr, printed on to beermats and strewn across the tables of the city’s pub, clubs and venues.

Touch them. Critique them. Or simply just enjoy them – and maybe a pint or two, too.

To enter, simply upload a photograph taken in Hull & East Yorkshire to Instagram, Twitter or Facebook with the hashtag #Hullphoto2017. Entries must be received by 31 Oct.

Photography workshops are taking place throughout September and October with photographers Dougie Wallace, Lottie Davis and Graeme Oxby. And winners will be announced by Martin Parr on Wednesday 15 November at 7pm, again  at Kardomah 94.

Winning photographs will be printed on to beermats and placed in the following Hull pubs and venues until the end of December:

  • Frankie’s Vauxhall Tavern, Hessle Road
  • Haworth Arms, Beverley Road
  • Kardomah 94, Alfred Gelder Street.
  • Larkin’s, Newland Avenue
  • Pave, Princes Avenue
  • Polar Bear, Spring Bank
  • Rayners, Hessle Road
  • The Minerva, Nelson Street
  • The Old English Gentleman, Mason Street
