Jazz trombonist, composer and poet Paul Taylor was a student at the University of Hull in the late 1970s. From a brass band background, it was in Hull that he first began playing jazz. Encouraged by many local musicians and band leaders he was active on the Hull music scene for several years before moving to London where his reputation soon developed.

Over the last couple of years he has performed with Loose Tubes, Roberto Pla’s Latin Ensemble and the Mingus Big Band during the week-long residence at Ronnie Scott’s Club during 2015.

His “Jazz in Hull: People & Places” Suite is dedicated to the local performers who encouraged him and to the venues where they played.

Paul Taylor is also an acknowledged poet, performing his one-man show ‘trombone-poetry’ in clubs, at festivals and on BBC radio.
