The Freedom Talks have been an integral part of the festival programme since 2017.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), the rise of the algorithm and who really makes the big decisions on our behalf.

2.45 pm Talk 2 – Modern-Day Slavery
Focusing on the challenges in the construction and agricultural industries.

Sunday 1 September 2019
12.15 pm Talk 3 – Ages of Isolation
Throwing a spotlight on loneliness, mental health and the increasing isolation in modern-day society.

4.30 pm Talk 4 – Ask for the Moons
A panel where the tables are turned and the teenagers rule the roost. The executive team of Freedom festival and other city representatives face a cohort of young people to make a deal with the city about the future. Not small things – the big things. Watch the future unfold before your very eyes.

As part of the Hull Maritime City Project refurbishment work is ongoing within the gardens - due to be completed early 2024. Perfect for an al fresco lunch, a game of football or a leisurely stroll, Queens Gardens is located in the heart of Hull City Centre. Originally the first dock to be constructed in Hull, it was transformed into an picturesque garden space in 1930, lined with trees and ponds with fountains. More recently, Queens Gardens has become host for popular Hull events such as the Freedom Festival and YUM Festival.
