Pre-concert talk with Martyn Brabbins, Music Director of the English National Opera, ahead of his concert conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Martyn Brabbins is Music Director of the English National Opera. An inspirational force in British music, and popular figure at the BBC Proms. He has recorded over 120 CDs to date, including prize-winning discs of operas by Korngold, Birtwistle and Harvey. In this talk, Brabbins will discuss his career and his thoughts on Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.6, ‘Pathétique’. Bursting with passion that spans the two extremes of the emotional spectrum, Tchaikovsky himself described the piece as the best thing he had ever composed.
