Simon Brodkin: Troublemaker

HULL TRUCK THEATRE, Hull Truck Theatre, 50 Ferensway, Hull, HU2 8LB

18 Mar 2022

19.30

World-famous prankster and creator of the hugely popular Lee Nelson, is back on stage with TROUBLEMAKER, his sensational new stand-up show, now extended into 2022 to meet overwhelming demand.

After showering Sepp Blatter with banknotes, upstaging Kanye West at Glastonbury, and handing Theresa May her P45, the critically acclaimed comedian explores why trouble has followed him from primary school through medical school to lockdown homeschool. And what it’s like to be chased by Donald Trump’s bodyguards, how to make the police laugh while they’re arresting you, and what to do when you’re outed as a Jew by the Ku Klux Klan.

Simon is one of Britain’s most loved comedians following his smash hit BBC shows Lee Nelson’s Well Good Show & Well Funny People, Channel 4’s award-nominated Britain’s Biggest Hoaxer and multiple TV appearances (Live at the Apollo, Sunday Night at the Palladium, The John Bishop Christmas Show, Children In Need, & Channel 4’s Comedy Gala).

After the success of his stand-up show 100% Simon Brodkin, selected by The Guardian and The Evening Standard as one of their ‘Best Comedy Shows’ at the Edinburgh Festival, TROUBLEMAKER has been wowing sold-out audiences in 2021 and is definitely a stand-up show not to be missed.

We produce and present inspiring theatre that reflects the diversity of a modern Britain. We provide the resources, space and support to grow people and ideas, are an ambassador for our city, a flagship for our region and a welcoming home for our communities. Through our work with schools and local communities we engage with thousands of young people, disabled groups and adults, offering opportunities to participate in the arts, whether as the first step into a career, a way to build confidence and meet new people, or as part of a rounded education. During our Year of Exceptional Drama as part of Hull UK City of Culture 2017 we welcomed a record number of 108,000 audience members at our home in Hull and on tour around the UK. We were thrilled to work with a wide range of internationally renowned artists and companies to stage 13 home-produced plays, including 7 new commissions. We have announced our ambitious equality and diversity plans as part of our commitment to opening up access to all aspects of the theatre. The animation below details how and why we will be ensuring our doors are well and truly flung open to all. It was developed by the theatre’s Inclusion Action Group.
