Barrie Rutter and Shane Rhodes present a celebration of Hull-born poet Maurice Rutherford’s 100th birthday. Poems, songs and stories from around the region, plus diamonds from the pen of Maurice, featuring some of the city’s finest talent.
Lucy Beaumont, Martin Barrass, Eliza Carthy, Roland Gift, Barrie Rutter and Dean Wilson share their passion for Rutherford by reading and performing the work of this master craftsman of poetry.
Now in his 100th year, Maurice Rutherford was born in 1922. After five years of military service he spent his adult life as a technical writer in the engineering and ship repair industry in Hull and Immingham. His collections of intelligent, subtle and moving poetry have been published by Peterloo Poets, Calstock and Shoestring Press.
“Why Poetry? Because poetry happens.”
The City Speaks will be an event to remember.
