Drawing Workshop – Drawn To Art

This is a four week course, going back to the basics of drawing, ideal for beginners or to improve skills with a step by step guide.

Topics covered are exploring perspectives, how to measure, shapes and shading, and will be useful to anyone who wishes to expand their knowledge and skills in any aspect of art.

This course will cost £18 per person per session or £66 for the full four weeks, including all materials, tools and refreshments.

Confucius Institute: Chinese Calligraphy

This course is for student, staff or members of the public who wish to learn more about Chinese calligraphy.

As part of the calligraphy course, you will learn about Chinese character structures and their distinctive patterns. There will be lots of opportunities to practise writing characters and painting with traditional ink and brushes.

This course will last for 10 weeks, and costs £120 which includes all materials.

Mambo Jambo Workshop

Join Mambo Jambo for a fun and involving musical carnival workshop.

Explore body percussion and learn the chorus to some of Mambo Jambo’s songs, with a chance to perform with them on stage. This workshop is open to musicians of all levels, and will include an opportunity for horn players (sax, trumpet, trombone and clarinet) who can read music at a basic level to get involved too.

This workshop also includes free entry to the evening concert.

Introduction To Letterpress

Explore the basics of letterpress printing on this half day workshop with artist David Armes.

In this short session you will set metal type by hand, impose a forme and print a bookmark in two colours using a tabletop Adana press. Please bring a short line or two from a favourite poem, song or proverb.

Mixed Media with Ingrid Holborn

Explore the art of mixed media with artist Ingrid Holborn. Have fun creating a unique canvas that could be given as a beautiful gift.

Stained Glass – Garden Wildlife

With her more than 20 years experience, Gloria will guide you through the stages to create your own stained glass piece. Choose from a hedgehog, bird, ladybird, bee, owl, butterfly or other garden creature and learn this incredible art.

This three hour session includes all materials and Gloria’s expert tuition.

Lino Printing

In this workshop, you will create your own lino print and have a go at lino printing. Learn the basics, cut your own lino and make your very own lino print.

This workshop will cost £12.50 per person which includes all materials & refreshments.

Learn to weave your very own round basket, using buff willow in this full day workshop.

Music Box with the Hallé Orchestra

Come along and join the world-famous Hallé Orchestra for a free practical session, for anybody to have a go with an instrument (no experience necessary).

Create some new music and sounds alongside musicians from the Hallé Orchestra. Together you will explore the music the Hallé  Orchestra will be playing in the family concert the following day.


Art Club For Home Educated Children

Explore a range of topics using different materials including guauche and acrylic paint, pencil, collage and crayons, along with using various methods, both 2D and 3D and working in different sizes.

Children will explore art using observation, imagination as well as taught techniques. Art Club aims to enrich learning and development as well as offering a creative fun and relaxing experience.

Parents & carers are welcome to stay for the duration of the session.

Jake Attree: A Case For Place, Landscape Issues

A two day workshop, working alongside artist Jake Attree, exploring the River Ancholme in Brigg through drawing and painting.

Day 1 will begin with making sketchbook drawings along the riverbank with the intention of finding a suitable subject for painting, developing these ideas into a more resolved and larger drawing. Jake will bring sketchbooks and larger drawings to show how he approaches this concept, as well as giving a demonstration.

On Day 2 you will begin painting in oils or watercolour all day, either from drawings in the studio or on site (depending on participants’ preferences and the weather!). Jake will be on hand to offer advice, direction and encouragement, concluding the day with a plenary session and a sense of fulfilment.

Make A Clay Tortoise

A fun and easy workshop using clay to make a tortoise, covering a wide range of subject matters and accommodating for all ages and abilities.

The sessions are designed to give an opportunity to learn basic techniques, whilst enjoying the creation of unique objects to keep.

This workshop will cost £12, including all materials.

Random Weave Willow Nests and Platters

Learn how to make this highly useful and individual random weave nest or platter from a variety of English Willows.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and will cost £55, including materials.

Make A Clay Greenman/Greenwoman

Using stoneware clay we will build a Green man plaque that is unique, and has been present in churches and spiritual buildings for thousands of years. The finished plaque will be finished with iron oxide to give a rustic and ancient look.

This workshop will cost £36 per person, including all materials.

Silver Clay Leaf Pendant

Using seasonal leaves, you will learn to make a unique leaf pendant using silver clay paste. Once fired, your pendant will comprise 99% pure silver.

This workshop will cost £42, which includes all materials.
