Hull International Choir Competition 2023
From 27th to 30th April 2023, join twenty seven world class choirs from ten countries presenting a melodic festival of eclectic music from around the world across Hull city centre!
Join us as we celebrate Hull’s International Choir Competition (27th to 30th April), the first time this prestigious event has been held in the UK. 1,000 participants from 27 choirs across 10 countries will come together to compete in choral competitions held in venues across the city. From Pop and Jazz to Sacred Music and Youth Choirs, the streets of Hull will be alive with the sound of singing. These competitions will be held behind closed doors but members of the public are welcome to pop in and
Luckily the choirs will be bringing their special performances outdoors for everyone to enjoy as part of a ‘Friendship Concert’. These special concerts bring 3 choirs together for a 45 minute performance which is FREE to attend. Click below to find out more. Not forgetting the jewel in the crown, the Gala Concert. Gala Concert (Saturday 29th April)
Four world class choirs will take the stage on Saturday 29th April to present a melodic evening of eclectic music from around the world. Join us at Jubilee Central for a celebration of choral music with the Barnsley Youth Choir, the Cornwall Youth Choir, Vox Aurea from Finland and the Tygerberg Children’s Choir from South Africa.
Friendship Concerts
These special one-off performances will take place at various locations across the city centre. The term ‘friendship’ refers to the alliance between choirs from all over the world joining together for a 45 minute performance to celebrate their love of choral singing and perform it for members of the public. Subject to weather, the locations will include Queen Victoria Square, Humber Street, Princes Quay and Trinity Market.

Competitive Performances
Across the competition, 27 choirs from 10 countries will be filling Hull with every genre of music from sacred music to pop, jazz and gospel. All choirs will be assessed by some of the world’s most accomplished jurors with decades of experience in conducting, singing and composing including Michael T Dawson, Paul Mealor, Tove Ramlo-Ystad, Karmina Silec, Sanna Valvanne and Matthew Wright. All competitive performances at Jubilee Central, Hull Minster and Albemale Music Centre are free and open to the public but are subject to seating availability.
