Esmée Fairbairn Foundation
Esmée Fairbairn Foundation aims to improve the quality of life for people and communities throughout the UK both now and in the future. We do this by funding the charitable work of organisations with the ideas and ability to achieve positive change.
The Foundation is one of the largest independent grant-makers in the UK. We make grants of £30 – £35 million annually towards a wide range of work within the arts, children and young people, the environment, social change and food. We also commit up to £35 million in social investments in organisations that aim to deliver both a financial return and a social benefit.
We believe that cultural expression is essential in a strong, healthy society. We want to support the sustainability of the arts sector across the UK and make sure that the widest range of people can participate. Hull 2017 represents a catalytic moment for local artists to place themselves and their work on a national and international stage and we are happy to support Hull 2017 to work with local artists to celebrate the culture of the city and its place in the wider cultural offer. This work offers a strong match to our interests in talent development and nurturing the next generation of artists.
