Heritage Lottery Fund – Visit Hull

Heritage Lottery Fund

As Hull prepares for one of the biggest events in its history, the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded Hull UK City of Culture 2017 £3m.

The new funding is a further boost for the ambitious programme, which will take place across 365 days next year, bringing a wide range of events and activities that are rooted in heritage across the city to entertain, delight and challenge. Shining a light on Hull’s most fascinating and untold stories, HLF’s backing will help Hull 2017 showcase and celebrate the city, its landscape, architecture and its people in new and imaginative ways.

This new principal partnership between HLF and Hull 2017 is inspired by the rich heritage of Hull, while clearly demonstrating a strong commitment to the city’s future.  It strengthens the work the Hull 2017 team and partners are doing to engage communities, develop skills and position the city as a significant cultural centre and as a world-class visitor destination.

“This is an exciting opportunity to celebrate and share Hull’s story; one that includes bitter Civil War, a role in Britain’s status as a seafaring nation, inspirational stories of the abolitionist movement; and tales of luminaries of British music and film. We’re proud to be supporting this year-long cultural event and look forward to working closely with the City of Culture team as they develop their programming ideas. “The Heritage Lottery Fund’s involvement is thanks to National Lottery players and we hope that our £3m investment will help make a positive impact on Hull’s public profile and economic wellbeing.” Sir Peter Luff, chair of HLF, said:
