Hull City Council – Visit Hull

Hull City Council

Hull City Council led the bid for UK City of Culture status, securing the title in November 2013 and, last year, setting up the Hull 2017 company to deliver the year on behalf of the city and the nation.

Hosting UK City of Culture 2017 is a key milestone in the delivery of Hull’s 10 year City Plan, which aims to regenerate the city, creating 7,500 jobs.

One of the key ambitions of the City Plan is to make Hull a world-class visitor destination, a place that will continue to welcome visitors from around the world for generations to come;  a place brimming with culture, enterprise and opportunity; a place where people want to live, work, play, study and do business; a place that people will be proud to call home.

To achieve this ambition, and secure a lasting legacy from Hull’s year as UK City of Culture, we are leading the delivery of an £80m investment in our streets, open spaces and cultural venues, which will attract a further £47m in government funding and at least £260m in private sector investment.  With other major developments, this will transform the city, creating jobs and opportunities for local people and a more vibrant visitor economy.

Our developing cultural strategy will  set out how we will continue to develop the city, the audiences for culture and our cultural and creative industries beyond 2017.  We have a huge amount of talent here and we recognise that we have an opportunity to harness the power of culture not just to boost the economy, but to enrich and improve people’s lives.

We are looking forward to welcoming the world to the city in 2017.  Working hand-in-hand with the UK City of Culture team we are determined to ensure that residents and visitors alike have a fantastic experience and a year to remember.
