MKM was established in Hull in 1995, with a vision to offer unprecedented levels of service by building excellent relationships with customers and suppliers. The company has since grown become the UK’s largest independent builders’ merchant, with 42 branches across England and Scotland offering a “one stop shop” for building, timber and plumbing supplies. Each branch holds high levels of stock on-site to ensure that customers in the building trade and the general public can get what they need, when they need it, and offers a free, reliable local delivery service.
MKM prides itself on customer service, and is built on the concept that skilled, local people who understand the needs of local customers should serve the trade in each branch. The company’s innovative setup gives branch managers a stake in the business and an opportunity to share in profits, a model which has proved to be a key driver of growth.
MKM celebrates its 21st anniversary in 2016, and its partnership with Hull 2017 is a way to thank the people of Hull for their support and custom. MKM is a longstanding supporter of culture in the city: June 2016’s Rod Stewart concert at the KC Stadium was arranged and financed by MKM Executive Chairman David Kilburn. Proceeds from the sell-out 25,000-ticket concert are being donated to Hull charities the Daisy Appeal and Holy Trinity Church.
