Make A Clay Greenman/Greenwoman

Using stoneware clay we will build a Green man plaque that is unique, and has been present in churches and spiritual buildings for thousands of years. The finished plaque will be finished with iron oxide to give a rustic and ancient look.

Using seasonal leaves, you will learn to make a unique leaf pendant using silver clay paste. Once fired, your pendant will comprise 99% pure silver.

Playing with Creativity – Journaling, Doodling and Making Art: Part 2

Everyone has the capacity to be creative. If you are interested in ideas to help you develop a daily creative habit, this course is for you.

It will help you to release your creative side, to experiment and be more playful using materials such as inks, pens and crayons to discover new marks and textures and ways of using and seeing the ordinary things around you, as inspiration to express who you are.

Switching on your creative side helps you to become more mindful and self-aware, and keeps you in the moment, treasuring the important things in life, the small family moments and milestones. This has been proven to have significant benefits for health and well-being.

This session will be different to Part 1, so ideal for those wanting a second filling of Clare’s Journaling workshop. Those who did not attend the first session are still welcome to come along.

Pottery Workshop: Honey Pots with Suzie Reffold

Suzie Reffold is an experienced potter who specialises in hand-building techniques, throwing on the wheel, and decorative

During this session, you will learn to create honey pots using the coil building technique. This method has been used to shape clay into pots for many thousands of years, and is the best technique for both small and large pots, as well as sculptures.

Using the coiling technique, it is possible to build thicker or taller walled pots, which may not have been possible using earlier methods, permitting more control whilst allowing you to build on top of the walls to make the pots look bigger with less danger of collapsing.

This workshop is suitable for beginners, and costs £25 per person. 

 

 

Pottery Workshop: Scraffito Decoration with Suzie Reffold

Suzie Reffold is an experienced potter who specialises in hand-building techniques, throwing on the wheel, and decorative techniques.

Scraffitto (Italian – “to scratch”), is a decorating pottery technique produced by applying layers of colour or colours to leather hard pottery, then scratching off  layers to create contrasting images, patterns and texture and reveal the clay colour underneath.

During this session, you will develop hand in beautiful decorative affects using both Scraffitto and slip decoration.

This workshop is suitable for beginners, and costs £25 per person which includes materials and firing.

During this new four week course at Studio Eleven, you will develop hand building techniques, beautiful decorative affects using scraffitto and slip decoration, and have a go at throwing.

These workshops are suitable for beginners, and costs £100 for all four sessions, including materials and firing. 

Japanese Woodblock ‘Mokuhanga’ with Lucy Schofield

Japanese woodblock printmaking, known as ‘Mokuhanga’, is perfect for artists interested in a non-toxic, table-top printmaking technique.

In a two day workshop with expert Lucy Schofield, you will learn the basic skills to transfer and carve a ‘key line’ and colour separation blocks, in the tradition of Japanese Ukiyo-e printmaking.

With only a hand held barren, learn techniques to achieve various print effects, from ‘sesame printing’ to ‘bokashi’, while registering your multi-block image through the simple traditional ‘kento’ system.

You will be sure to fall in love with the process and results of this accessible, water-based printmaking method, which provides endless possibilities.

This two day workshop costs £120, or £100 for members. 

Fabulous Fused Glass Art with Glass Artist Louise Watson

Louise Watson is an experienced glass artist that works with both architectural and kiln-formed glass.

Learn the techniques of fused glass making, an ideal way to experiment and create your own small project pieces. You will learn a variety of fusing methods to create pieces such as pendants, decorations and small tiles.

This workshop costs £55 (£50 for members) and is suitable for beginners, or those with some fused glass experience.

 

 

Make Your Own Pastels & Draw with Tom Wood

Tom Wood is an established artist who has exhibited nationally and internationally. With over 50 years of practising, Tom will provide two highly skilled and specialised sessions over the course of one weekend.

Saturday 28th April, 10:30am – 4pm

Make Your Own Pastels – You will learn how to make chalk pastels in a colour set of your choice.

Sunday 29th April, 10:30am – 4pm

Drawing in Pastel – Tom will tutor the drawing session focusing on how to get the most out of your personal set of handmade pastels.

Collagraph and Screen Printing Development with Diane Chatterton

Collagraph is a printing method in which materials are glued to a printing plate (often card or mountboard). The textures and depth of the materials can often leave an impression and indentation into the paper as well as the inked image. Combine and layer these methods to build up depth, colour, texture, and composition.

These workshops are suitable for intermediaries, and take place on Saturday 31st Mar, 7th & 14th April, 11am – 4pm.
