The phenomenal, award-winning Tango Fire returns to the UK direct due to incredible popular demand.

Starring internationally renowned Argentinean tango superstars German Cornejo and Gisela Galeassi, who are joined by a cast of extraordinary tango dancers, including World Tango champions, this is a fiery and explosive journey through the history of authentic Argentine Tango.

Six incredible couples show off some of the speediest footwork and tightest twirling in the business while demonstrating their individual styles, accompanied by the astonishing Tango Fuego Quartet, playing live music on stage from tango’s most famous composers, including Piazzolla, Pugliese and Gardel. This is a sizzling, sensual show guaranteed to make pulses race.

JoinedUp Dance Company

Since 2017, JoinedUp Dance Company have been working with some of the most distinguished poets in the UK to produce rich visual experiences as part of BBC Contains Strong Language.

This year a TRIO of performances will be held that use contemporary dance, projection, text and costume to provide an immersive experience for the audience.

These pieces of work are ‘The Tide of Humber’ based on Imtiaz Dharker’s specially-commissioned poem; ‘Still’ based on Poet Laureate Simon Armitage’s collection commissioned by 1418 Now; and a new piece, ‘Pas de Deux’, based on Scottish Makar Jackie Kay’s poem of the same name.

Readings by Imtiaz Dharker, Simon Armitage and Jackie Kay will be included

Dance Stars Anton & Erin Tour

Anton & Erin, the nation’s favourite ballroom stars, are back with their brand-new show as they Dance Those Magical Movies live at the Bonus Arena on 13 March 2020.

With sensational choreography set to music that made it big on the silver screen, expect a Hollywood red carpet premiere performance from the UK’s leading dance stars.

Anton du Beke, is a British ballroom dancer, singer and television presenter, best known as a professional dancer on the BBC One celebrity dancing show, Strictly Come Dancing, since the show began in 2004. His professional dance partner since 1997 has been Erin Boag.

Anton has appeared on every series of Strictly, partnering with the likes of Judy Murray, Esther Rantzen, Anne Widdicombe and Katie Derham.

Thrilling live vocals from TV favourite Lance Ellington, a spectacular dance ensemble and a stunning 23-piece orchestra led by conductor Richard Balcombe complete the showstopping line up for this fabulous 2020 tour.

NEW MUSIC BIENNIAL: Klein – Osanle

A brand new drama and dance piece by London-based musician Klein, Osanle explores the iconography of ballet through the eyes of three teenage boys as they discover the art for the first time.

Composer and playwright Klein is an artist who’s neoteric vision has seen her quickly become one of the UK’s most intriguing and unpinnable producers and performers. She uses collage techniques to assemble recordings of her own vocals and instrumentation into unique soundscapes, with references ranging from Mythology to Pavarotti and the very ideology of the defunct TV network, ‘Trouble’.

Osanle is written, directed and composed by Klein, and choreographed by Klein and Scout Creswick. Original Music is performed by Klein. Costume by Tania Daniel. Set design by Club Couture and Overt Corporation.

You won’t receive a physical ticket for PRS Foundation’s New Music Biennial events, instead you will receive an e-ticket.

There is one ticket for each member of your party. In an effort to reduce paper waste we encourage you to download and show the ticket/s on your mobile device. If you are unable to do so please print off a copy of each ticket and show it at the venue to be scanned.

If you do not have access to a printer, or mobile phone, you can pop into the Hull Truck Theatre Box Office where staff will be happy to print a copy off for you. This service is only available during Hull Truck Theatre’s Box Office opening hours; Mon – Sat, 10am – 5.30pm (open later on show nights). Alternatively we charge £1 for printing and postage of e-tickets.

Please note, this event is free but ticketed. Tickets do not guarantee entry and admission is on a first-come-first-served basis for those with tickets. Please ensure you arrive promptly to avoid disappointment.

Tickets are available to from Hull Truck Theatre up until 2hrs before the event. Please bear in mind that if you are not able to receive e-tickets, on a mobile device, the theatre does not open until 10am for you to collect physical printed tickets.

ER Dance

East Riding Youth Dance Platform

The East Riding Youth Dance Platform returns taking over Bridlington Spa with an evening of vibrant dance, choreographed and created by groups of the 12 week Youth Dance programme. Local Dance artists work with groups based in Beverley, Bridlington, Goole, Hornsea, Withernsea and Pocklington, all devising an exciting array of dance pieces.

We are especially proud to be working with professional dance artists: Toni-Amanda Wharram, Laura Bulless, Becky Kirby, Samantha Rogerson, Alexandra Doe, Kelly Ann Smith, Carla Morrill, Caroline Smalley and Dawn Holgate who bring with them years of dance experience and are passing this on to our young people.
East Riding Youth Dance County Company will also be performing the piece they performed at FRESH in April, along with a new piece of work.

The Platform is also pleased to welcome invited guests DAZL Youth Dance from Leeds who will be performing their own creative pieces.

The event promises to be an exciting and stimulating evening of community youth dance.

ROSETTA

Hull Dance Choreographic Prize winners from 2017 Ed and Živilė return after an international tour to present their work, Rosetta. An exploration of digital technology and experimental movement, the performance explores the conflict between mind and body as we journey through the fundamental aspects of communication.

LUMI – IN THE HEART OF LIGHT

For babies aged 0-12 months and their families. By choreographer Dalija Acin Thelander and Šeiko dance company dancers.

This is an international collaboration between Lithuanian Seiko Dance Company and Swedish based choreographer Dalija Acin Thelander.

 

I WISH TO BE THE BLOSSOM A FERN

A rare chance to see this flagship Lithuanian company led by Birutė Letukaitė. Don’t miss their first ever UK performance, it is a specially created dance piece featuring dancers from many different countries. The piece explores the close dynamic between humans and nature, and that as part of our quest to reconnect with the natural world we need to get back to our roots.

KAYA

KAYA explores the human experiences of displacement, drawing on the strength and resilience of those searching for a new community. Brighton based choreographer Ceyda Tanc creates dynamic dance fusing her Turkish heritage with modern British culture and challenging gender stereotypes using the virtuoso movement of male Turkish dances for her all female company.

BIRDS

Birds is inspired by the Aristophanes’ play, a comedy, where all the world’s birds create a new city in the sky. Lithuania’s dance theatre company Okarukas bring their unique style of contemporary dance enriched by butoh and create an exciting site-specific work in Hull.

ONE LAST DANCE

An Chéad Damhsa – Drop In Performance

One Last Dance – An Chéad Damhsa is a perambulating dance between Guildford (Rita’s home in the UK as an Erasmus student in 1994) and Cloughjordan (the rural Irish village where she moved post-Brexit). On her journey, Rita walked, danced and stayed with other EU citizens including some from Hull. In this drop-in event, Rita shares the stories of her collaborators and the dances they made together.

Hull’s only Contemporary Dance Festival -Transgressions is back!

Leading companies from Lithuania join UK based dance artists for a weekend of performances in unusual spaces.

Developed in partnership with the Lithuanian Culture Institute, Transgressions asks the questions; how do people with dual-cultural heritage or, who are newly arrived in a country, use dance to find their identity as individuals and artists?

Watch Aljaž Škorjanec, Giovanni Pernice and Gorka Marquez, giants of the ballroom and Latin world, battle it out on the dance floor when they visit the Bonus Arena, Hull on 17th July 2019.

They are here to impress, willing us to cheer them on, as they go head to head in a dance-off! Battling each other every night, in Latin, Ballroom, commercial and contemporary! They need you to decide who the champion is.

DJ’s will select the tracks, and spin the decks, whilst the boys will show you why they are the true heavyweights of dance.

SWINGING AT THE COTTON CLUB

Take a step back into 1920s & ’30s New York City and through the doors of Harlem’s hottest nightclub, ‘The Cotton Club’!

‘Swinging at The Cotton Club’ is the action-packed show celebrating the music and dance of the Cotton Club – New York’s most celebrated nightclub of the 1920s and ‘30s.

Performances by Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Fats Waller would have had the club swinging – whilst dancers such as Bojangles Robinson and the Nicholas Brothers lit-up the stage with their breathtaking routines.

In this show, the exhilarating dance and music of the Cotton Club is recreated by the fabulous Lindy Hop Dance Company, alongside The Harry Strutters Hot Rhythm Orchestra, featuring American vocalist Marlene Hill and compere/vocalist Megs Etherington.

HERE COME THE GIRLS

An all new show ‘Here Come The Girls’ brings an exciting mix of individual performances and group numbers with their supporting dance partners. The show will have a mix of Ballroom and Latin routines and has been choreographed by Patrick Helm, this show promises to be a fresh and innovative with amazing routines to dazzle and wow you. Patrick will also perform on the show with Dianne!

Dianne Buswell and Amy Dowden have established themselves on the hit BBC show Strictly Come Dancing and Chloe Hewitt also joins the cast of pro girls to make it the first Girls tour.
