For their 50th Anniversary, Hull University’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society are performing arguably the most dramatic of the duos’ Operettas.
Colonel Fairfax awaits his execution in The Tower of London. Wrongly accused of sorcery, he is willing to marry anyone only so that his estate won’t fall into the hands of his undeserving relatives. His luck seems to improve when the perfect candidate arrives at the Tower, Elsie Maynard, a beautiful strolling singer, if only it wasn’t for her husband-to-be, the jester, Jack Point.
This musical story follows the trials and tribulations of Giddy, a young mountain goat who is scared of heights.
Based on the colourful children’s book by Jamie Rix and Lynne Chapman*, with specially composed music by Paul Rissmann, this tale of facing fears and making friends is an ideal way to introduce children aged 3-7 years to classical music, with plenty of audience participation and projections of images from the story.

Jonathan Parker of BBC Radio Humberside’s “Westenders” is bringing his “One Off Productions” version of Jack & The Beanstalk to The Civic Hall this Christmas.
