Arty Bods is an exciting set of Saturday morning art workshops designed for kids aged 5-11 years old.
Each workshop will be led by artist Lauren Saunders. Together as a group, your child will get to grips with a range of art materials and techniques with a focus on paper crafts with paper kindly provided by the GF Smith Charitable Trust.
Over this series of six sessions children will collectively create a magical forest and the creatures that live there along with making masks, exploring print techniques and basic bookcraft skills.
Expect lots of fun, colour and mess (and no cleaning up)!
Young artists must be accompanied by an adult, who can relax during sessions with coffee and cake from our café bar.
Activity schedule:
12 April – Secret dioramas
What’s this other-worldly place we’re going to together? Who lives there? Get to grips with working with a range of GF Smith papers by creating magical nature guardians and fantastical forest dioramas through collage and origami.
19 April – Magic Papers with Guest facilitator Faith Foster!
Explore exciting paper tricks and surprises! Have a chance to create ‘impossible’ paper, magic arrows and springy Spring fold-out pictures.
26 April – Momagami Mice
Rumour has it that there is a magnificent mouse living in the woods who sings the most beautiful songs – and hearing their song brings the listener good fortune! Engage your senses as you make your own paper-based 3D magical momagami mouse. * Note: Coconut oil will be used in this session [Allergy warning]
3 May – Animal Masks
Oh no! The gallery has been invaded by a stampede of giant mythical creatures! Make fantastical and wearable paper animal, monster or creature masks so we can parade around!
10 May – Nature Printing
Let’s get printing in collaboration with nature! Explore monoprinting using leaves and flowers onto GF Smith papers… and weather permitting, we’ll explore cyanotypes too! Please wear clothing that you don’t mind getting inky, or bring an apron.
17 May – Junk Bookbinding
Learn basic bookcraft skills through Junk Bookbinding! Repurpose scraps from previous weeks alongside your own brought images (from previous weeks, perhaps?) to make your own creatively bound junkjournals and scrapbooks.
Please purchase one ticket per child attending.
