‘Picture This’ Textiles Mixed Media Day

Spend a day in our studio with Textiles Artist Jayne Jessop and create a ‘Textile Picture’. You will explore a range of different media and techniques including Printing, Colourwashing, Felting, Needle Felting, Machine Embroidery, Fusing Angelina & Silk Fibres, Collaging & Machine Embroidery. Working with these during the afternoon you will then create your own finished composition piece to take home. Come along and be creative at Traenerhus in Hull’s Old Town on this fun and creative studio day.

Mosaic Terracotta Pots

Learn to Mosaic onto a 3D object with local artist Jayne Jessop. We provide the terracotta pot and all the tools, tiles and broken crockery; you provide the inspiration and have fun on this ‘smashing’ day mosaicing to create your very own pot creation. Jayne will teach you everything you need to know to learn to mosaic with broken tiles and ceramics so you can do this time and time again with stuff found in Charity shops and Grandma’s cupboard ? Includes all materials and light refreshments

Hand-Made Leather Books

Create some perfectly formed pamphlets, then stitch them together into a beautiful, hand sewn leather bound book.

All papers, leather, silks and strings are provided but if you have any old leather or special paper you wish to use please bring it along.

Light refreshments are also included.

Textile Basketry – Coiled Baskets

This ancient basket making method involves wrapping threads around a central material then coiling it around on itself.

The size, colour and shape of the basket you make will depend on the materials used, the skills and technique of the maker.

The course fee is £40 and includes all materials and refreshments.

4 Week Book Binding Workshop

Get together every Tuesday this September and learn the art of bookbinding, in this 4 week workshop.

WEEK 1

Experiment with and create your own handmade paper which can be utilised in the books you will later create.

WEEK 2

In this session, you will be looking at 4-hole Japanese stab binding. Simple and practical, this is the basic traditional method of Japanese bookbinding (or stab binding).

WEEK 3

You will learn how to create a leatherette journal using the long stitch binding method, with a chain stitch variation.

WEEK 4

In the final session, you will learn how to create a cloth hardcover coptic stitch book. This workshop will teach you how to wrap hardcovers, as well as learn the coptic stitch binding method.

This course is perfect for beginners or those who want to brush up on their basic bookbinding skills, and will cost £35 per session or £120 for the full 4 weeks.

Make A Clay Moongazing Hare

Work with Stoneware clay to make a Moon Gazing Hare, and embellish with words or other additions of flowers stars in white clay.

The Oxide finish applied during firing gives this piece a rustic effect just right for a Hare sculpture. The finished Hare is frost proof and suitable for display inside or in the garden.

Suitable for ages 13 upwards, but all ages 10 – 12 are welcome if accompanied by an adult.

Make A Clay Unicorn

For slightly older children we make a magical little unicorn from white clay… the finished work will be lustred for extra twinkle!

Papercraft Owl Workshop

In this workshop children will learn and discover a variety of paper craft techniques to create their own 3D paper craft owl.

Make A Clay Owl Workshop

This workshop for children involves shaping and texturing clay. Use two colours of clay to make a little round owl with big eyes.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Make A Clay Dog

A workshop for children, in which they will work with clay to make a very cute sitting dog.

This workshop will cost £12, which includes all materials.

Make Clay Pasta Print Tiles

A creative workshop for children, with an opportunity to have fun and explore making marks and patterns in clay before creating a tile that will be fired.

This workshop will cost £12 per child, which includes all materials.

Make A Clay Dragon

Make a fabulous dragon from stoneware clay!

This is a complex workshop led by teacher Karen Raithby, with scope for loads of imagination.
