Internationally renowned harpist Alina Bzhezhinska has built a reputation for innovation. For this new project she’s created a unique sound on the harp with effect pedals and electronics, supported by Mikele Montolli (bass) & Joel Prime (percussion) and featuring the innovative trumpeter Jay Phelps.
Through a combination of original music and covers, she pays homage to some of jazz, funk and hiphop’s greatest innovators. Her new quintet draws from a variety of influences, including the likes of Dorothy Ashby’s Afroharping, Alice Coltrane and Sun Ra, as well as 90s triphop and Kutiesqe Afrobeat rhythms.
