VERMIGLIO
Dir Maura Delpero | Italy, France, Belgium | 2024 | 119 mins | Rated 15 | Italian
This singular portrait of a sprawling family, set in the small, mountainous village of Vermiglio during the waning days of WWII, follows a series of dramatic, consequential events after the arrival of Pietro, a taciturn Sicilian soldier, who hides out in town after deserting the army. Lucia is the eldest daughter of the local schoolmaster. When she and Pietro meet, a romance blossoms between them. Their relationship deepens but when they get married it upsets the family’s equilibrium and changes everyone’s lives.
