What better way to spend a Wednesday night than at this magical event. Headliner Keith Christmas started round the scene in the late ’60s releasing his now cult debut LP in 1969. Around this time he also worked with David Bowie and Keith is the acoustic guitarist on the ‘Space Oddity’ LP. He played the early Glastonbury Festivals and the Growth Summer Free Concert in 1969 at Beckenham which was co organised by Bowie. it was once quipped ‘A festival wasn’t a Festival if Keith Christmas wasn’t there’ . His next two LPs Fable of the Wings ( 1970) and Pygmy ( 1971) included input from Robert Kirby of Nick Drake fame and were a mix of acoustic and band tracks. As the 70s progressed Keith moved to the USA and got signed by Manticore ( Emerson Lake and Palmers label) where he recorded with members of Booker T and the MG’s. Keith also supported everyone from The Who, Ten Years After, King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Captain Beefhart and Hawkwind. Keith used to enjoy jamming with Magic Muscle and other psyched out acts , some of these recording have surfaced. When the musical landscape changed Keith came back to the UK and temporarily gave up music only to resurface in Blues bands before starting to make acoustic LPs again and tour nationally. By 1996 he released ‘Love Beyond deals’ to great reviews. Since then he’s released about half a dozen LPs and EPs , the latest ‘Life,Life’ came out in 2019 getting rave reviews.
Aidrian Welham is also from that crazy late 60s universe of folk with a pysch touch. He was in cult band Forest who had two legendary LPS out, the debut one in 1969 and ‘Full Circle’ in 1970. Both released on the Harvest label. Both these LPs are now collectables worth a fortune. Aidrian in Forest played guitar, sand and wrote material. The circuit they were on at the time led to them playing a benefit gig for Fairport Convention after the awful van crash, and gigging every where , and recording at Abbey Road ( when the Beatles were also recording !) His gigs are rare , but he has never stopped writing songs and playing in that great acoustic style with a touch of the otherworld. Just come and see him.
Hardy & Hetherington are very pleased to do the opening act for this show as they are fans of both Keith and Aidrian. If an acoustic due from ‘now’ could have fitted in back then it’s these two. They have been playing only since 2024 and everytime they play they pick up new fans with their well crafted timeless guitar and harmonies. Get down in good time to see these two. They have already supported Greg Douglass ( Steve Miller Band) and contemporary Folk star Chris Brain and are well worth seeing.
