In a new Council initiative, Hull Music Service is taking up the baton to secure the ongoing development and future of Hull Jazz Festival. Working in partnership, the Music Hub are taking responsibility for a transition period for the festival to ensure its continuation and legacy into 2026 and beyond. Working with J-Night with support from Hull City Council Arts Development the Music Hub will be the first Music Service in the country to deliver a music festival. Hand in hand with this is the continuation of support for a project around new musical collaborations which were initiated by Arts Development with the first ‘Out of the Box’ project in 2023. The project will continue links with youth arts partnership, Creative Voice. The project also plans to develop a Young Producer role.
Hull Jazz Festival takes place in various venues across the City, 6-15 November 2025, with and exciting programme which includes contributions from former ‘Out of the Box’ commissioned artists. A special event ‘Out of the Box Revealed’ on 15 November at the Albemarle Music Centre sees a festival of discovery for creative music makers and audiences culminating in a finale super-gig presented by Andy Scott focused around improvisation involving a super-group of amazing improvising musicians for a one-off unique performance featuring the brilliant Carmel Smickersgill using Ableton live.
