Creative Voice Connections is a youth arts networking workshop for organisations and practitioners working creatively with young people who want to engage in its strategic development. “What are the issues that young people are talking about?” “How can we respond? “How can we let young people know?” Young people are also welcome to come along with you to take part in this conversation and has been held during half term to support this.

This session will focus on what young people have said about youth arts since Creative Voice Festival last October half term with a particular focus on exploring their communities and how they can influence their offer in line with Hull City Council’s Culture and Heritage Strategy and its community-led focus.  MakerspaceHull will support a creative response designing and printing word maps and posters. We will also continue to address the need for improving marketing, an issue raised by young people, so please bring your latest publicity and information for networking.

This session is also in partnership with Emma Waslin, Programme Development Manager from the Wollstonecraft Society who will be promoting a new project opportunity called “Start Somewhere” which is a year-long creative and cultural education and training programme, rooted in Human Rights, aimed to benefit young people in the city.

Across the year, participants will participate in 10 creative workshop sessions. Each session will include a cultural/ artistic experience, alongside a practical skills development session. The practical skills development sessions will include sessions around confidence, teamwork, decision-making, growing empathy, budgeting and communications. Whilst the cultural experiences will include hands-on interactive experiences in new and unique places across the city (and just outside of the city) exploring current and historical issues, including Mary Wollstonecraft, founding feminist, the UN rights of a child, what it means to be a leader, Justice, Democracy and self expression. Cultural experiences will be delivered in partnership with local organisations who we already have solid organisational relationships with such as Artlink, Hull Truck Theatre, Makerspace, Big Malarkey, Hull Central Library, Middle Child and more.

After participating in the creative sessions, young people will receive the opportunity to do a work placement with one of the visited cultural organisations, or another high

quality organisation enabling young people with real life work-experience to enhance their CVs.

A celebration at the end of the event will bring the young people together after their work experience placements to celebrate the diverse range of skills learnt and developed.

Children and young people will be recruited from various parts of Hull.

Creative Voice aims to supports young people’s voice and influence in their youth arts offer as well as support skills development and pathways to bridge gaps and support inclusion. There is also a focus on creative health and wellbeing.

Creative Voice Connections is a network organised by Arts Development which combined the membership of a previous Youth Arts Network and Young People’s Music Partnership as well as continuing to support current development work with partners Youth Development Service, Hull Dance Move Together, Artlink and Goodwin Trust’s Hull Youth Music Network.
