Isolated in a confused and data-drenched world, one man finds an unexpected escape in the beauty of nature. However, it’s not long before this escape is threatened by those he thought were his friends.
With a blend of surreal, daft comedy, animation and video, Steve Vertigo weaves a tale of Artificial Intelligence, alienation and 38,000 starlings.
Swept away in a murmuration of 38,000 starlings, led by the matriarch Stella, he finds friendship, support and hope where before there seemed to be none. Themes of isolation, otherness and the dangers posed by division, run through this adventure. Artificial Intelligence seems to hold all the answers to humanity’s problems, but at what cost? An unexpected escape from a claustrophobic and unhealthy life seems just what is needed. Steve then realises that things he thought were under his control and helping him are doing the exact opposite. Unwittingly he brings danger upon his new friends and so is duty-bound to find an escape for them when they ask for his help.
Steve Vertigo is a storyteller, and in this one-man comedy show he adds animations, videos and a cast of weird and wonderful characters to bring this story to life. The first draft of the script made it to the final round of the BBC Comedy Writers Room, and has since been re-written and brought up to date. It has so far been well-received at Buxton, Manchester, and Camden Fringes and festivals and will land at the East Riding Theatre for two nights in April. Bring seed!

Venue Details
EAST RIDING THEATRE IS A COMMUNITY THEATRE, BASED IN BEVERLEY. Established in 2014, the venue was created from a former Victorian chapel and it oifers an intimate space for enjoying many types of entertainment, with a 200 seat auditorium and fully licensed Café Bar. The year-round programme of entertainment, includes theatre, music, comedy, spoken word and much more. Regular exhibitions of art are displayed within the Theatre Gallery. It is also a venue that is often used for festivals and other events. OUR VOLUNTEERS ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF OUR THEATRE Without our Volunteers we would not have a theatre. They are passionate about the entertainment programme that we deliver and dedicated in making a contribution to our day-to-day activities throughout all areas of the theatre – whether it be welcoming our audience front-of-house, selling tickets in the box office, serving drink and food in our café bar, helping with maintenance, keeping the theatre clean or one of many other roles!
