Wednesday November 7th Val Holmes is a retired nurse, her career spanning over thirty years. Since her retirement she has been able to indulge her love of writing.  Val’s play ‘Lil’, the story of Lilian Bilocca was performed to capacity audiences at Jubilee Hall in 2017 and March 2018.

The interest in this local story goes on and Val has been approached by schools to promote the role of this strong northern lady. Val is part of the Lil Drama Company keeping Hull stories alive.  http://lildramacompany.uk/val-holmes-showcase/

Gaia Holmes lives in Halifax. She is a cat/dog/house sitter, freelance writer and creative writing tutor. She runs ‘Igniting The Spark’, a weekly writing workshop at Dean Clough, Halifax.

Her latest collection Where the Road Runs Out, transports us to the edge of things: to remote, treeless islands, to dark, unfathomable mines, to the gaping maw of grief. With frailty and ferocity, these poems map out the strange absences left in our lives when a rupture occurs like the sudden appearance of a sinkhole threatening to pull everything else down with it.
