Song for Ella Grey will offer a moving and captivating experience whilst Oh What a Lovely War will present a modern musical. Hull Truck Theatre favourite, John Godber, also returns with the first play John ever wrote: Happy Jack.

What A Night (Friday 12 – Saturday 13 January), taking audiences back in time on a musical journey through the incredible career of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. Featuring songs such as Sherry, Let’s Hang On, Big Girl’s Don’t Cry, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You and many, many more!
The Time of our Lives (Saturday 20 January) invites you to grab the popcorn and sing along to unforgettable classics from your favourite 80’s classic timeless soundtracks! From Dirty Dancing to Top Gun, all the hits are here from your favourite 80s blockbuster movies. This will be a fabulous evening of nostalgia and a night not to be missed.
Enjoy an evening of music and song from one of the 20th Century’s most celebrated composers with Broadway to Hollywood: The Cole Porter Songbook (Saturday 27 January). Promising to be a truly memorable performance, BBC Proms regular, vocalist Matt Ford, alongside a trio of world class musicians will take you on an intimate musical journey of Cole Porter.
Snowmen (Friday 5 – Saturday 6 January), will bring fun and games in a playful show for young children over the school holidays. Presented by The Herd Theatre, the story of two snowmen on a mission not to melt will be the perfect winter treat for children and their families as the festive season comes to a close. A joyful new show about friendship, home and hope, with a flurry of fun for the very young. Designed for children aged 2 – 7.
Once again, Hull Truck Screen will be hosting some of the best art and independent cinema from around the world as the Godber Studio hosts a state-of-the-art screen and sound system streaming live broadcasts in partnership this January with National Theatre Live and Hull Independent Cinema.
Hull Independent Cinema will present The Eternal Daughter (12A) on Wednesday 17 January. Featuring a towering, deeply moving performance by Tilda Swinton, acclaimed filmmaker Joanna Hogg’s beguiling latest film is a brilliant and captivating exploration of parental relationships and the things we leave behind.
Hull Independent Cinema will also present Tish (15) (Friday 19 January) about social documentary photographer and trailblazer Tish Murtha who dedicated her life to documenting the north-east working-class communities of the 1970s and 1980s in which she lived. The film will be followed by a live question and answer period with narrator and Tish’s daughter Ella Murtha and film’s producer Jen Corcoran.
NT Live: Dear England (Thursday 25 January) is filmed live on stage at the National Theatre and directed by Rupert Goold (Judy). Starring Joseph Fiennes as Gareth Southgate, this poignant play by James Graham asks the question: Why can’t England’s men win at their own game? With the worst track record for penalties in the world, Gareth Southgate knows he needs to open his mind and face up to the years of hurt, to take team and country back to the promised land.
Introduction to Stand-up Comedy with Kevin Precious (Wednesday 31 January) is a chance to try your hand at stand-up comedy or simply an opportunity to boost your presentation skills, improve the business of public speaking or add a comedic aspect to your writing. This 7-week course is designed to be a comprehensive introduction to writing and performing stand-up comedy and culminates with each participant getting the opportunity to perform their first gig. Participants will develop methods and techniques for generating self-authored comedy material; combined with the ability to deliver the material in front of a live audience.
