Accessibility

With events planned for every corner of the city in public spaces and historic old buildings, we want to make it possible for everyone to have the opportunity to access the arts.

We will support our creative partners, contractors and members of the wider community to join us in this effort.

 As Hull 2017, we intend:

  • To work alongside our creative partners to make Hull’s arts and cultural offer more accessible to a broader audience.
  • To be a catalyst for new access initiatives in the city, working with venues, artists and organisations to pilot and test ideas.
  • To provide inclusive opportunities for participation and involvement in our projects.
  • To create opportunities for audiences and artists of all abilities to experience culture in Hull that reflects the world we live in.

If you have questions about our accessible events at Hull 2017 and would like some more information, you can contact us on 01482 30 2017. For access ticket requests, please email boxoffice@hull2017.co.uk

Venue access

Our programme will use a number of different venues across the city. Access information for each of these venues can be found in our Venues index, as well as under the Venue tab on each event page. We try our hardest to work in venues that are accessible for all audiences, although sometimes it is not possible to meet all access requirements.

If you have any additional access questions that are specific to a venue you’re interested in visiting, please contact that venue directly using the contact details on the Venue tab. Please note – if you have bought tickets for events through hull2017.co.uk and have questions relating to your order you should contact the Hull 2017 Box Office on boxoffice@hull2017.co.uk rather than contacting the venue directly.

Using our website

You can find out what’s coming up in the city at hull2017.co.uk/whatson.

Using our Find Events filter bar on our What’s On page and our Homepage you can filter upcoming events by the event type, venue and when the event is happening. Then on the following page, you can filter events further by access provision, including event access (Audio Description, BSL Interpretation, Captions, etc.) and venue access (Accessible Toilets, Blue Badge Parking, etc.).

We want our website to meet the highest standards when it comes to accessibility. In terms of colour and contrast, for example, we have chosen to use an accessible online colour palette that passes WCAG 2 AA Compliancy Checks.

This is a fully responsive website that should look good on virtually any computer, tablet or smartphone. Because we’ve built the website this way, if you want to increase the font size all you have to do is increase the zoom level in your browser. For instance, on a Mac press the command (cmd) key and + or – to increase or decrease zoom. On a Windows computer, press CTRL and + or – to zoom. And on a touch-screen phone or tablet, simply pinch and zoom.

If you need to change the contrast of the website, you should be able to amend this in your internet browser settings.

All of our videos are also captioned in English.

We always welcome feedback on our website and other marketing materials, so if you have any comments or recommendations please email the team on theteam@hull2017.co.uk.
