Singing School

What happens when you use Opera as a stimulus for learning? You create a singing school of course!

This year students from Adelaide Primary School and Highlands Primary School were given the opportunity to learn new musical skills as Opera North embedded music into the life of the school and its students.

Exploring and reflecting on their daily lives through music, older students were given the chance to work with conductor and composer Michael Betteridge, while younger students learnt about expressive movement with music practitioner Alison Wise.

The project reached a crescendo with a performance of the pupils’ own compositions alongside musicians from the Chorus and Orchestra of Opera North.

This project built on the success of the Opera North Singing School community residency that has been running for the past three years at Bude Park Primary School.

Listen to their crescendo.
