Internationally renowned harpist Alina Bzhezhinska has a built a reputation for innovation since she stormed onto the UK music scene with her quartet in 2017.

For this new project, she creates a unique sound on the harp with electronics and loop pedals, supported by a new quartet line-up.

Through original works and covers, she pays homage to some of jazz, funk and hip-hop’s greatest innovators. Her new quartet draws from a variety of influences, including Dorothy Ashby’s Afro-harping, Alice Coltrane’s spiritual outputs and Sun Ra’s jazz experimentation; as well as 90’s trip-hop and Kuti-esque Afrobeat rhythms.

“Bzhezhinska shares with Alice (Coltrane) a mastery of the jazz harp.” ★★★★★ Will Hodgkinson, The Times

Through our work with schools and local communities we engage with thousands of young people, disabled groups and adults, offering opportunities to participate in the arts, whether as the first step into a career, a way to build confidence and meet new people, or as part of a rounded education. During our Year of Exceptional Drama as part of Hull UK City of Culture 2017 we welcomed a record number of 108,000 audience members at our home in Hull and on tour around the UK. We were thrilled to work with a wide range of internationally renowned artists and companies to stage 13 home-produced plays, including 7 new commissions. We have announced our ambitious equality and diversity plans as part of our commitment to opening up access to all aspects of the theatre.
