Avenues Open Gardens

THE AVENUES OPEN GARDENS, The Avenues, Off Princes Avenue, Hull, HU5 3HA

7 - 14 Jul 2019

£4

Family Friendly

Avenues Open Gardens takes place annually on the afternoons of the first two Sundays in July (1pm – 5pm).
Each year we have between 50 and 70 different gardens/venues and often have new “openers” joining the event.
It’s a real family affair with much to see and always a number of gardens offering a wide variety of refreshments.
There are also plants for sale and various musical entertainments.

The residents of the Avenues have been opening their gardens to the public since 1976. The gardens show a real diversity of gardening styles complimented with interesting and unique local architecture.
Gardens are not inspected prior to opening and as a result the gardens that you see are individual and distinctive. This gives the event a genuine feel of a celebration of the domestic gardens in our city’s conservation, urban environment.
Many of the gardens are large, some going back 150 feet with original features, such as old stables and out-houses from the times they were built from the 1870’s onward.
Many Open Gardeners offer refreshments, the profits from which form a major part of the charity donations.
Due to the nature of the event, wheelchair/pushchair access may not be possible in some gardens. Please speak to the Open Gardener if in doubt. Accompanied children are free and parents are expected to remain with their children at all times.
